Diet requirements for airplane meals?

diet meals
veggie_fta asked:

I am traveling interstate (domestic flight) with Qantas, and was wondering how to arrange meals (in this case lunch) for specific dietary requirements. In my case, I’m vegetarian. Any help would be appreciated, thank you :)

Happy New Year!

Hmmm. I’m not sure, since I’ve never had to sort that out myself. Perhaps you could find the airline’s website and see if any information is there, if not, maybe call customer support and see if they can help you.

Thats all the information I can give I’m afraid, I’ve never had that problem myself.

call the airline, have your flight details ready and tell them your request

You can add this to your ticket info online at the airline website or call them directly. I’d recommend, if it is a long flight, bringing a snack or even a full meal with you just in case. Airlines do not have to honor the special requests– they usually do but sometimes the vegetarian meal doesn’t get loaded in the catering cart, or your request never gets passed along to the catering people.

Well if its in State then you will most likely not get meal but a snack like peanuts or pretzels but if you do get a meal i believe that it is a requirement to have a certain meal on board for vegetarians and for certain religions so i think you should be fine.

Contact the airline via phone – and then make sure it is on your record.

When you double check your reservation the week before the flight, make sure you double check that, also.

When you get on the airplane make sure the flight attendent knows that you are there.

While almost all airlines provide vegetarian meals (some provide ovo-lacto, lacto, vegan and asian vegetarian as separate choices) it’s always possible for such a request to get messed up – I’ve had it happen often. I do carry vegetarian meal bars of some sort with me when I travel, since I’ve found myself without my meal on more than one occasion.

They usually get it right – but it does not hurt to make sure.

When you check in, talk to travel agent. Before the plane takes off, fly attendant will come to confirm it with you. If she is not, call and request her.

Here’s a link to Qantas’ answer to that question:

You can also specify any dietary requirements with most airlines when you purchase the ticket. Just don’t wait until the day of travel to let them know. Have a good trip!
