Just eating six small meals a day is a boost in itself.

As a general rule, stick to whole, natural & unprocessed foods.
Whole grains, fruits & vegetables, starchy vegetables, potatoes, oats, yams, etc are all good carb sources.
The best sources of protein are lean meats. Most meats that say ‘lean’ on them are not very lean at all. You need to look at the actual percentage of calories from fat.
Fats are also EXTREMELY important for optimum metabolic function. Supplmenting with fish oil, which is high in the omega-3 fatty acids DHA & EPA can boost metabolic rate by up to 400 calories per day!
Fats are essential for regulation of the metabolism, especially since fatty acids are used to produce all hormones, including thyroid hormones.
Good sources of fats are things like olive oil, flax oil, fish oil, nuts, nut oil, avocados, fish, coconut oil, etc.
Aim to get 20-30% of your calories from good fats. And remember that all fats are not equal. Avoid fats for 2-3 hours after working out, though.

Use the sources below to guide your diet (without pills) to meet your daily nutritional needs:

The best metabolism booster is exercise! Start with walking, jogging or another aerobic exercise. Start with short, easy, 30 minute workouts everyday to about 45-60 minutes a day with increased intensity followed by a 5-10 minute cooldown. A low-carb version of most energy drinks like Red Bull, Rock Star or Monster before your workout can sometimes help to increase your energy and provide hydration.
You could try supplementing your diet with about 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into an 8 oz. glass of water and drink two or three times a day. This is a well-supported holistic remedy for some ailments and proactive approach for better health and metabolism.
If you overeat and you have a stomach that can deal with some heat, could try a cayenne tablet and a glass of water. I realize you said no pills, but this supplement is natural red hot pepper, so I don’t think you’d want it passing over your tongue! The heat in your stomach will help to ease the full feeling and pass the food through easier (just don’t take this on an empty stomach!).

I personally eat every 2-3 hrs to keep my metabolism high, which averages out to 5-6 meals a day. Exercise is the second most natural way to boost your metabolism(lean meats, fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc).
Make sure to participate in a balanced regime of cardio and weight training each week(or resistance training), get plenty of rest, and lots of fresh water daily. Most importantly, avoid excess caffeine, sugar, and dairy. Those things really mess with the natural flow of your metabolism.
Staying fit is actually very simple, and despite the new gadgets and fitness gurus which pop up each year, the basic steps remain the same. Miji
